On 5 May 2026, Egypt issued a statement condemning the targeting of Khartoum International Airport in Sudan through drone strikes, considering the attack a serious violation of Sudan’s sovereignty and a direct threat to the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
In that context, Egypt expressed grave concern over the growing frequency of attacks originating from the territory of neighboring states, warning that this could widen the scope of the conflict and undermine the intensive efforts undertaken by the United States within the framework of the International Quartet to secure a humanitarian truce that would lead to a comprehensive ceasefire and pave the way for the launch of an inclusive political process under full Sudanese ownership and free from external interference.
Egypt reiterated that its established position remains one of rejecting all forms of foreign interference in Sudanese affairs and emphasized the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity. Egypt further underscored the obligation of good neighborliness in adherence to the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, which prohibits interference in the internal affairs of states.
