Egypt Endorses International Efforts Toward Disability-Inclusive Digital Technologies and Infrastructure

During the 52nd meeting held on 30 March 2026, the Human Rights Council considered draft resolution (A/HRC/61/L.5) entitled “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Disability-Inclusive Digital Technologies and Infrastructure, Including Transport and Housing.” The draft resolution was presented by the core group represented by Mexico and New Zealand.
Egypt welcomed the focus of the current iteration of the resolution on disability-inclusive digital technologies and infrastructure, with special emphasis placed on transport and housing. In addition, Egypt affirmed that its support for the draft resolution stems from its firm commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities as enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities(CRPD). As the international community approaches the twentieth anniversary of the Convention, Egypt emphasized that it continues to devote special attention to advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, maximizing their potential, and ensuring the provision of the necessary care and support to facilitate their integration and active participation in all aspects of life.
Egypt also commended the core group for adopting an inclusive, transparent, and constructive approach throughout the consultations on the draft resolution. In particular, Egypt welcomed the willingness of the sponsors to take into consideration several suggestions and proposals advanced by Egypt and other delegations, ultimately resulting in the presentation of what Egypt described as a balanced text.
Within this context, Egypt expressed appreciation for the inclusion of references recognizing the role of families, as well as care and support systems for persons with disabilities, in line with Article 28 of the CRPD. Egypt also welcomed the reference addressing the particular impact of situations of occupation on the enjoyment of the rights of persons with disabilities.
Concluding its statement, Egypt affirmed its readiness to join consensus on the draft resolution. Finally, the resolution was adopted without a vote.
